74. Lion Hunting Season Begins Thursday
The season runs through the end of the year or sooner if certain quotas are filled. The quota last year was eight female lions, or 25 in all. This year, everything is combined into one unit. In the past, there was a hunting unit in the Black Hills and another unit outside the Black Hills for landowners only. Hunters must report any lion kill to the Game, Fish and Parks Department within 24 hours.
