  Information on Pericardial Mesothelioma
Also known as cancer of the heart lining. Symptoms can include: This form of cancer is very rare. Chest pain and shortness of breath often accompany it. Diagnosis: As with pleural mesothelioma, pericardial mesothelioma may be diagnosed by using a thoracoscope to perform a thoracoscopy, which involves opening up the chest cavity to remove the tumor. Patients who develop excessive fluid around the heart, called an effusion, may need to have a sample taken to diagnose pericardial mesothelioma, or to relieve symptoms of a confirmed case of pericardial mesothelioma, such as poor circulation. The process of drawing out this fluid is called pericardiocentesis.

  Pericardial Mesothelioma Resources
The least common form of mesothelioma cancer is pericardial mesothelioma. Pericardial mesothelioma can spread to the lungs and when this occurs, it is considered secondary lung cancer. Mesothelioma is also sometimes referred to as an asbestos lung disease. Technically, this is also incorrect, since it does not originate in the lungs. Asbestosis is a type of asbestos lung disease that does originate in the lungs and is often confused with mesothelioma.

  About Pericardial Mesothelioma
Pericardial mesothelioma is a cancer in the lining that surrounds the heart, called the pericardium. The pericardium are cells that produce a lubricating fluid that protect the heart. They allow the heart to move freely when, for instance, it is pumping blood to other parts of your body. Pericardial mesothelioma is the least common form of malignant mesothelioma. It only accounts for 5 to 15% of all mesotheliomas.
