Ecological Economics and Sustainable Development Laboratory Eco.Su.D Laboratory was created in 2004 by the Economics Department of the University of Crete and its mission is to conduct research in the interface of Ecological and Development Economics and produce internationally recognized research output in these areas.

ETE is a part of the Centrum voor Economische Studien (C.E.S.) which is the research division of the Department of Economics of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (K.U.Leuven). The working group formally consists of three subdivisions: Energy, Transport and Environment. The general aim of ETE is to apply state of the art economic theory to current policy issues at the national and European level. An important asset of ETE is its extensive portfolio of numerical partial and general equilibrium models for the assessment of transport, energy and environmental policies.

Our core capability is in the application of economic analysis to environmental and natural resources management and markets. This capability includes: enumerating and analyzing socio-economic surveys, undertaking welfare-based policy analysis, measures of market and non-market costs and benefits, and other environmental and natural resource analysis.

This project is a joint effort of three renown Western European universities and three agricultural universities in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia with focus on the development of environmental study programmes in the South Caucasus Region. In 2003, the project consortium was awarded with a grant by the European Commission for implementing a two-year project in the frames of the EU Tempus program.
