• Marine Science Institute, UC Santa Barbara
The Marine Science Institute (MSI), established at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1969, is the focus for marine, coastal zone, and freshwater research; marine policy studies; and educational outreach in marine science. MSI administers and supports research projects involving faculty, professional researchers, technical staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students from 14 disciplines.
• Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory
Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, NREL, Colorado State University. The driving goal of NREL science is to increase the fundamental understanding of our environment, through collaborative application of ecology and ecosystem science principles which contribute to policy and management decisions promoting sustainability. NREL has a thirty year tradition of bringing scientists from different disciplines together to investigate complicated ecological problems.
• One Tree Island Research Station
One Tree Island is a coral cay of about 4 hectares, situated at the seaward (southeast) end of its reef which is 5.5 long and up to 3.5 km in size. The reef is an excellent example the rich development characteristic of the southern part of the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef. It lies in the Centre of the Capricorn Group of the Great Barrier Reef, about 20 km east of Heron Island and about 100km off the Queensland coast. The nearest mainland port is Gladstone.
• Department of Lake and Estuarine Ecology
The overall aim of the Department of Lake and Estuarine Ecology is to provide the scientific basis for the administration and management of lakes and estuarine ecosystems. This is achieved through strategic and applied research and through work on environmental data within these research areas. The department's responsibilities also include coordinating NERI's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing activities.
• Florida Center for Environmental Studies
The Florida Center for Environmental Studies represents the ten state universities and four major private universities . The center acts as a facilitator and co-ordinator of research and training related to the environment and as a locus for environmental information. Grounding its activities in the Florida sub-tropical environment, its mandate encompasses global tropical and sub-tropical environments especially the issues and problems of water dominated ecosystems.
• Global Terrestrial Observing System (GTOS)
GTOS, Global Terrestrial Observing System, Systeme Global d'Observation Terrestre, Sistema Global de Observacion Terrestre. GTOS is a programme for observations, modelling, and analysis of terrestrial ecosystems to support sustainable development. GTOS facilitates access to information on terrestrial ecosystems so that researchers and policy makers can detect and manage global and regional environmental change.
• Institute of Ecology National University of Mexico
Institute of Ecology, UNAM. Research in the Sonoran Desert, Sonora, Mexico, pollination, GIS, vegetation, genetics, ecosystems, ecophysiology, palynology.
• International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR)
The International Association for Great Lakes Research (IAGLR) promotes Great Lakes and other large lakes research and disseminates scientific information through publications and conferences.
• Mid-Atlantic Region Ecological Observatory - MAREO
The purpose of this web site is to help create a National Ecological Observatory for the Mid-Atlantic Region. Most information can be accessed as a guest, but if you wish to add information, you need to create a login ID.
• North Carolina State Center for Applied Aquatic Ecology
The Center's broad research directive is to assess and find practical solutions to water quality problems in North Carolina and the nation. The Center's research projects span from freshwaters to estuaries and marine waters, for example, cyanobacteria and their toxins in major drinking water supply reservoirs in North Carolina; long-term trends in nutrient loading to the Neuse River and Estuary and ecosystem response, related to changing land use patterns in the watershed; and the biology of harmful algae and their impacts on finfish and shellfish health.
