The Coastal Marsh Project operated in the Department of Geography at the University of Maryland, College Park from 1993 to 1998. The purpose of the Project was to analyze the surface condition of coastal marshes and detect areas that were at risk for rapid loss of land area. Overall coastal marsh health and potential for deterioration were assessed for much of the east coast of the United States. The result of Project operations was the development of a Marsh Surface Condition data set and improved scientific analysis of coastal marshes.

The Morro Bay National Estuary Program is a collaborative organization that brings local citizens, local government, non-profits, agencies, and landowners together to protect and restore the physical, biological, economic, and recreational values of the Morro Bay Estuary. The program staff members work on a variety of projects including (but not limited to) public education, the Volunteer Monitoring Program, watershed protection and restoration and managing the MBNEP grant programs.

The NOAA Coastal Services Center is an office within the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) devoted to serving the nation's state and local coastal resource management programs by "linking people, information, and technology" for coastal related issues.

The Clean Estuary Partnership (CEP) is an innovative collaboration designed to improve water quality in San Francisco Bay. In the CEP process, high quality information and data are used by the partners to develop and agree upon long-term strategies for protecting and restoring water quality in the Bay.
