Measuring biodiversity value & selecting priority areas for conservation.

This programme provides and facilitates access to information on species of conservation concern. The goal is to support policy and action for the conservation and sustainable management of biological diversity by providing integrated information on status, trends, distribution and use.

Since 2000 efforts have been made at the European level to coordinate biodiversity indicators and monitoring. With the adoption of biodiversity targets for 2010 at global, pan-European and European Union levels this process has accelerated. The European Biodiversity Monitoring and Indicator Framework is regarded as the framework for coordination at the pan-European level, as included in the Kyiv Resolution on Biodiversity.

The Global Mountain Biodiversity Assessment (GMBA) network of DIVERSITAS actively explores and explains the great biological richness of the mountains of the world. GMBA seeks to provide input to policy makers and stakeholders for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in mountain regions.

The DOI USGS BRD Gap Analysis Program (GAP) is working to keep common species common by identifying conservation gaps between predicted species distribution and protected lands.
