  SocBiN - Society for Bioinformatics in the Nordic Countries
SocBiN is a non-profit organization for people working with and interested in bioinformatics and computational biology. The organization has predominantly members from the Nordic (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden) and Baltic (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland) countries. The Institute of Bioinformatics is a not-for-profit organization engaged in research in Databases, Computational Genomics and Proteomics. The main goal of the Institute of Bioinformatics is to decipher the recently sequenced human genome. Proteins are encoded by genes which are scattered throughout the genome. As a first step, the Institute of Bioinformatics has developed a comprehensive database of all known human proteins and their characteristics.
