  Apiary Factsheet - American Foulbrood (AFB)
AFB is caused by Paenibacillus larvae , a spore-forming bacterium. Hive may show less than normal bee flight with dead bees on the bottom board. The colony may appear weak after opening the hive. Capped brood is uneven with puncture holes in the cell cappings. Colonies with heavy infestation often display irritable behavior.
