  University of Liverpool Veterinary School
The Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Liverpool is organized into three main Departments: 1. Veterinary Preclinical Science including Anatomy, Physiology, Cell Biology & Pharmacology 2. Veterinary Pathology including Pathology and Microbiology 3. Veterinary Clinical Science including Divisions: Livestock Health and Welfare, Equine, Small Animal, Animal Husbandry. Those departments are based in the Main Veterinary Building and Small Animal Hospital on the Liverpool Campus and at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at, 'Leahurst' , approximately 12 miles outside Liverpool on the Wirral Peninsula. In addition, Veterinary Anaesthesia is based in the Department of Anaesthesia in the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Veterinary Parasitology is based in the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Liverpool Veterinary School was awarded 24/24 in the QAA's Subject Review. Add to this our top score of 5 in RAE 2001, and you have a top-rated centre of teaching and research in veterinary education. 1,800 Number of horses admitted to the equine hospital in 2003 for investigation and treatment. This number ensures all students have good exposure to equine clinical cases. 2000 Number of cases seen in the small Animal Hospital. In addition, the first opinion clinic (Fern-Grove surgery) sees around 30 cases a day.
