BEE is one of the largest of its kind in the country with a very diverse faculty, staff and student population. The department serves three integrated functions: teaching of undergraduate and graduate students; research on problems in agriculture, biology, and the environment; and public outreach to help society implement new knowledge.

Six major areas of scholarship are represented within the Department of E&EB: (1) biogeochemistry and ecosystem science, (2) community ecology, (3) population biology, (4) organismal biology, (5) evolutionary genetics, and (6) macroevolution and systematics.

The Department's Mission is to: prepare students for horticulture-related professions and businesses; strengthen the competitive position of Michigan's horticultural industries; improve the quality and the availability of horticultural products; promote the use of plants and food for improving the environment and for personal enrichment; and make new discoveries in the plant sciences.

The College of Agriculture at Montana State University in Bozeman delivers high quality educational programs and is a leader in research. These dynamic research programs are conducted throughout Montana with Bozeman-based and agricultural research center-based faculty and staff.

The Food Science and Engineering Unit includes multiple academic and extension programs in the following areas: Agricultural Systems Management; Biological Engineering; Food Science; Hotel and Restaurant Management; Nutritional Sciences;

The Thompson School offers Associate Degree programs in Animal Science, Business Management, Civil Technology, Community Service and Leadership, Restaurant Management, Forest Technology, Nutrition, and Horticultural Technology. Additionally, each program offers specialization within its area of study.

Rutgers' interdisciplinary Department of Nutritional Sciences emphasizes (1) both undergraduate and graduate education, (2) research into basic issues of nutrition, and (3) public service that uses research results to improve the nutritional habits, general health, and overall well-being of the populace.
