As of July 1, 2002, the departments of Animal Ecology and Forestry have been merged to form the new Department of Natural Resource Ecology and Management. Both former departments will continue to offer all of the same undergraduate and graduate degrees and options.

The department has a strong research-graduate student orientation, usually with about 50 to 60 active graduate students. The department offers 16 graduate courses in a variety of subjects from econometrics to agricultural policy and environmental management.

  Institute of Applied Agriculture (IAA), University of Maryland
Established in 1965, IAA is a 60 credit certificate program that focuses on applied teaching methods. The IAA is noted for its individualized attention, hands-on learning and the employability of its graduates. All IAA students intern at appropriate facilities, and many are hired by the business with which they trained.
